The Engineering Technician II , under general supervision, performs test and service functions relating to the reliability and servicing of Dixie Chopper, Bush, RhinoAG, Bush Hog, and other Alamo Group whole goods and purchased components. Works from sketches, prints or verbal instructions to fabricate and assemble experimental parts, components, and assemblies. Performs bench and field test from test plans and submits detailed reports. Makes changes to existing products and provides innovative ideas for functional and cost improvements.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Focus, communicate, encourage and contribute to Safety in all aspects of the job and all company

  • Conducts and documents test for new products, existing products and purchased.

  • Ensures functionality, performance, required safety testing and service life to achieve desired levels of product reliability and user acceptance directed by design engineering.

  • Read, write, and interpret the test performed, summarizing the results and recommendations for improvement to Engineering or vendors.

  • Weigh all products and major components and records the data in the computer

  • Coordinates customer testing when

  • Design assembly fixtures and special test tooling as

  • Assist Quality Department when

  • Assist in maintaining department’s prototype inventory and maintains prototype storage area, shop bay and testing area in a clean, orderly and professional.

  • Use and maintain the department’s instrumentation including the data acquisition

  • Operate the department’s truck and trailer as required to support the test

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by

Education and Experience:

  • Desire and capability to work with machinery in a “hands on” environment

  • Knowledge and experience in fabrication, welding and tractor mechanics

  • Hydraulic and electrical systems knowledge and experience

  • Must be computer

  • Familiar with CAD program

  • Some travel

  • Able to work occasional overtime to complete projects as

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, health card and DOT training to operate the department’s truck and trailer or be willing to obtain within 6 weeks.

Position requires significant exposure to heavy steel fabrication, weld, paint and assembly environment with frequent exposure to heat, dust and noise in a non-climate-controlled area and field test in the outdoors. Physical capability includes frequent sitting, standing, bending, stooping and walking for an 8+ hour shift and occasional weekends. Have the ability to wear required safety equipment and lifting up to 50 pounds, required for test programs. Able to travel overnight when required (less than 5%).
