Apply TODAY for immediate consideration! _ Primary Role_ Under direction of the Senior Operation Superintendent, the Utility Services Representative will perform a variety of tasks related to customer service, water metering, water/wastewater distribution/collection work and water/wastewater plant operations. Performance of all duties must adhere and comply with company safety policies, guidelines, and procedures. Afterhours/on-call duty may be required. _ Key Accountabilities_ * Read /Investigate/ Re-Read residential / commercial water meters manually as well as using a Handheld device. The job involves walking, lifting, bending, removing mud and debris from the meter box, accurately recording the readings during the billing cycle in the field, read meters. * Perform new water meter installations, including installation of AMR wires, remote meter reading devices (AMR touchpad) and sealing meters. Perform meter repairs such as AMR touchpad, replacement of AMR wires, replace freeze-out plate, and tighten meter plumbing connections. Perform customer service functions such as checking for meter leaks within a residence, ensuring meters and couplings are sealed properly, inspect customers’ internal plumbing for cross-connections, illegal bypasses and improperly installed domestic and irrigation meters. Investigate low pressure and dirty water complaints. * Operate and assist in the repair of distribution valves and fire hydrants. Perform hydrant flushing. Manual digging of valve boxes and curb boxes using shovel and digging bar. Perform leak detection using AWS equipment. * Operate company vehicles, accessories and small tools as part of field operations and necessary paperwork accurately using a laptop computer. * Mark locations of underground water/wastewater mains, distribution lines, valves, etc. by accurately reading system maps. Inform supervisor of any physical changes noticed during field operations so that system maps can be corrected. * As the on-call operator, be available and attend to emergency calls during weekends, holidays, and evenings. Respond to emergencies as quickly as possible and take further precautionary actions. Coordinate and supervise activities of contractor personnel repairing the system and complete associated paperwork. Local residency required in order to respond within 60 minutes of emergency calls. * Preform inspections/maintenance water/wastewater plant facilities and remote site, including sampling, filling chemicals, daily samples, and maintain sample analyzers. * Collect water/wastewater samples on a weekly or as-required basis from various sampling stations including residential locations. Packing the samples in cooler and preparing for courier delivery or delivering to the lab. * Preform inspections/maintenance wastewater collection system by opening manholes, and checking lift stations. * Perform other related duties as assigned. _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Experience in plumbing and computer skills as they relate to uploading/downloading meter reading data, proper sampling techniques, and reading system maps. * Techniques, equipment and materials used in mechanical maintenance and repair of related equipment & systems. * Preparation and maintenance of records, logs, orders, surveys, and routine reports as directed. * Meter reading and customer service skills. * Ability to communicate effectively with team members and the public. * Ability to follow verbal and written directives. * Ability to use electronic devices. * Ability to work independently and in a team environment. * Bilingual (Spanish) conversational skills a plus. _ Experience/Education_ * High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) * One (1) or more years related work experience in the water distribution/plant and wastewater plant/collections Prior meter reading and/or utility field work experience is preferred. _ Certifications & Licenses_ * Indiana DSL, WT3 and/or WT5. * Indiana Wastewater per Plant size. * Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass motor vehicle background check. _ Travel Requirements_ * <5% _ Other_ * Maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance at all times while in uniform or during working hours. * Maintain a courteous manner when speaking to customers and co-workers. * Contributes to effective communication by listening and providing constructive feedback. * Supporting the creation of an open and honest work environment. * Sharing knowledge and information relevant to other members of the team and colleagues across teams. * Assist in training of new employees. * This position requires the employee to be punctual on a daily basis. _ Competencies_ * Champions safety * Customer obsessed * Cultivates innovation * Nimble learning * Drives Results * Collaborates * Join American Water...We Keep Life Flowing™ * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.
